Wikipedia says it was cheaper, but doesn't give a number. The IBM 5151 is a 12" transistor–transistor logic (TTL) monochrome monitor, shipped with the original IBM Personal Computer for use with the IBM Monochrome Display Adapter.

Note 3 This could be the "First Edition (September 1985)" edition with the 6280099 supplement (supplement covering the model 339 which is the 8 MHz 5170). I have an old IBM 5155 (aka Personal Portable Computer). The feet were all broken. These are based on what was left.

The IBM Portable Personal Computer 5155 model 68 is an early portable computer developed by IBM after the success of the suitcase-size Compaq Portable.It was released in February, 1984, and was quickly replaced by the IBM Convertible, only roughly two years after its debut.
Internal IBMers were pretty disappointed about this response of their company to the Compaq, which was a much superior product (had a built in hard disk) yet it sold reasonably well and was used in far off places like Alaska (see Denton Pearson's donation I am really not sure what happened to the other 67 versions of the IBM portable.
